Emerald Green Chest

Emerald Green Chest

I don't know about you, but for me it's always this time of year when I'm just over Winter. It's cold, everything is dirty, my hands are permanently chapped, and above all else, my tan lines are officially non-existent. I start to look for any clue that Spring is just around the corner. And even if it means I have to create those signs, I'll do just that. So what better way to get out of this Winter rut than to do a furniture makeover in a bright, cheery color?!

If you haven't had your morning cup of coffee yet, don't bother. This dresser will not only make you think Spring, it will also give you a jolt of energy for sure! Go bold or go home. That pretty much sums up this furniture makeover.

Unless you've been living under an interior decorating rock, you've probably noticed that mid-century furniture is back...in a big way! Take a trip to your local Crate & Barrel, West Elm, or Room & Board, and it will take you all of 30 seconds to realize these stores are doubling down on this trend. Similar to fashion trends, whether you're ready for it or not, styles tend to go full circle, and if you stick around long enough, you'll see them repeat themselves. On a side note, I've been seeing waaay more bell-bottomed jeans in catalogs lately than I'm comfortable about admitting. I'm pretty sure if I'm seeing this trend for the second time around, there are people out there who are now on round three! Mark my words, I'm standing firm this time and will NOT succumb to this trend again! Anyways...back to furniture. While major retailers are making it clear mid-century furniture is totally hip again, personally, it's not what I gravitate towards. While I appreciate the style, I don't find myself buying it. However, that's the great thing about my job. I can spend quality time bonding with different types of furniture, getting to know them, learning about their quirks, deciding if we're compatible, and then ultimately saying good-bye...kinda like my ex-boyfriends!

You remember me telling you a couple weeks ago that the French Provincial buffet I painted was the first time ever for me using black on a furniture makeover? Have you also noticed that since then, three out of my past four furniture makeovers have been black?! You'd think I have The Rolling Stones "Paint it Black" playing on repeat over here, which actually isn't the case at all. (I've been jamming out to Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas" since October.) I guess it's safe to say that I've got a bit of a color crush, and I don't see it fading anytime soon.

An Oldie but Goodie

An Oldie but Goodie

As much as I love testing out new colors and techniques, I've been on a bit of repeat binder lately. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have picked up on this trend already. This shift has been brought on partly by choice, and partly because of custom order requests. The great thing about repeats is you know they are popular and in demand...otherwise I wouldn't be repeating them!

A Timeless Classic

A Timeless Classic

Being a resident of Chicago, I was so looking forward to this Friday and the big unveiling of my new Chicago Cubs collection. It was going to be great! Tons of blue and red painted pieces, little Cubbie bears plastered all over the place...I'd even been practicing stenciling baseball bats. Every little boy's bedroom in Chicago was going to have a piece of my furniture in it. Let me tell you, I was ON the bandwagon and loving the ride...until it came to a screeching hault. Well clearly that marketing campaign would have resulted in a huge flop. #NextYear. So, I decided to stick with something a bit more reliable this week. And nothing is more reliable than a classic piece of furniture that never goes out of style.
