Waterfall Dresser Makeover

As I was scanning through Craigslist the other day I came across this waterfall dresser.  This style of furniture was popular in the 1920's - 1940's, lending a nod to the Art Deco era with it's sleek lines and streamlined symmetry.  Just the type of piece that would look great with a little shabby chic flair!

As you can see, the lady I bought it from also had a thing for painting furniture, so this guy already had a base layer of Seafoam Green on it.  Not my personal favorite, but I'll take care of that!  I hauled this thing home and got to work!  After browsing through Pinterest, I decided on a combination of Annie Sloan Duck Egg and Cocoa. However before getting started on the painting, I wanted to add a bit more detail to the piece.  I had a wood decal I bought awhile back from D Lawless Hardware that fit perfectly between the knobs.

Once the wood glue had dried, the real fun began!  I painted the base of the dresser in Cocoa and did the drawers in Duck Egg.  Once the two coats were dry, I went over the piece first with Annie Sloan clear wax, and then dark wax.  I was pretty liberal with the amount of dark wax I used, which really gave the piece an antique look.  Ahhh, this is always the part of the process where I can take a deep breath and think "Ok, this is starting to look good!"

And there she is!  Did I refer to the dresser as a "he" before?  Yeah, well now it's a girl.  I'm telling you, I work wonders over here!

I love the contrast between the two colors.  I think the dark wax really helps to unify them, while giving it an antique look.

And did I mention the new hardware?  It's from D Lawless Hardware as well.  This place is great; you've got to check it out!  They have the coolest selection of vintage looking knobs, pulls, hooks, as well as other random stuff.  And not to mention, very reasonable prices!

And one last look.  Ok, now get out there and chase your own waterfall!  Oh, I just couldn't resist...I mean how can you talk about waterfalls and NOT give some tribute to TLC?!
