Custom Upholstered Headboard

You asked for it, and we delivered! Over the past couple years, the upholstery side of our business has really picked up, putting us on the map as a legit full-scale furniture refinishing company. To date, the majority of our upholstery projects have been client-owned pieces. However, based on the demand we have been receiving for upholstery projects, I have been eager to expand our inventory to include finished ready-for-purchase products as well. We have been busy reupholstering a wide array of furniture (be sure to check out our shop for the latest updates), however what I’m most excited about are the custom projects we have made from scratch, with the latest project being a custom upholstered headboard.

If you’re like me, whether it’s shopping for your home or yourself, once you get a specific look or item in your head that you want, there’s a 99% chance you’re not going to find it. I’m still in search for the perfect black leather pump that is both comfortable and stylish. Does it exist?!

So, when I decided I wanted to expand our product line to include custom headboards, it may or may not have been a result of me wanting a particular headboard for our guest bedroom that I’m 99% sure does not currently exist.

The current state of our guest bedroom was the compilation of discarded furnishings. The bed was a purchase from right out of college that I had painted and reupholstered several times. The bedding was an extra set that I had originally purchased for our lake house. And the nightstands, while perfect in size and style, were not the right color. I knew the room needed some attention, however I didn’t yet have a vision.

Awhile back, I was introduced to Namay Samay, a small artisanal fabric house who specializes in hand weaves, embroideries and prints. They have a beautiful collection of fabrics that I was immediately drawn to and knew I wanted to incorporate into my home decor. I chose a blue and green floral print, and made that the focal point of our guest bedroom.

I worked closely with my upholstery guy to design the exact shape of the headboard. Since it’s a small room, and I was set on a primarily white duvet cover, I knew I wanted a large headboard to stand out as the focal point of the room.

The result is nothing short of stunning. To have a bed that is designed specifically for the space really makes a world of difference. The colors in the headboard set the tone for the rest of the room’s decor (which is still a work in progress), and the custom shape and style really work well with the size of the room.

We went with a curved design with a double cording detail. The overall result is a traditional, formal, yet comfortable feel.

I am thrilled with the way this headboard turned out, and even more excited that we are now offering custom headboards to our clients.

The final test to determine the success of this headboard…do our guests outstay their welcome?!
